PERSONAL.

Private C. W, Austin, of Omata, w?lo is with the Bth Reinforcements, has been promoted to the rank of Corporal. District Nurse Kelly, of Opuimkc, who has nominated for service at the front has been accepted, and will probably leave New Zealand in January.

Mr. C. A. Woolford, of Te Kiri, was yesterday nominated by the Egmont County Council to fill the vacancy on the Opunnkc Harbor Board caused by the resignation of Mr. A. McKeown.

Two Taranaki men left by yesterday's train to join the Tenth Reinforcements. They were Mr. It. AV. White, eldest son of Mr Percy White, and Mr, Irwin H'owell, -son of Mrs. Howell, of Chatsworth House. Mr. White is being farewelled at Feildmg, from which town he enlisted, and Mr. Howell entrains at Auckland on Monday.

A very old pioneer of Egmont Village passed away a few weeks ago in' the person of Mr. Wm. Willing, at the ripe age of SO years. The deceased landed in Auckland in the year 1557. He was horn on the lflth of November, 1828, in Devonshire. England. He was for many years farming on the Egmont Road, and was well known and highly respected throughout the district. When he, retired from farming some years ago, he went to live with his daughter on tha Durham Road. He leaves a grown up family of two sons and two daughters.
