All orossbrods, combing and merinos went in sellers' favor. There was better competition for faulty merinos at late rates. The opinion in the Baltic exchange is that the Australian wheat scheme will practically eliminate private speculation, but there is no reason why it should not work satisfactorily. Some members see no necessity for the scheme, which tliev regard as the rankest Socialism. Representatives are considering the details. LONDON MARKETS. London, Nov. 10. Christehurch, Yesterday. At the wool sale to-day 5548 baleJ were offered to a large attendance of buyers. Super wools elicited very keen competition. Halfbred reached 20d, the advance compared with last year's rate being 3d to 3'/Jd. Three-quarter-bred advanced by 2d to 2s, making 18d. The advance in crossbreds equalled 2d to 2V 2 d, the top price being 16% d. Long wool was about 2d higher, Cotriedale reached an advance equal to 2%d to 3d. Relatively shabbier wools did not advance at the same rate, some lots being neglected. Pieces sold much better than last year, the advance being equal to 3d per lb. The sale was the best ever held in Christehurch.
