LOSS OF THE ANCOWA. ,'iOO WOMEN' AND CIujjUREN LOST. SENSATION IN AMERICA. London, Nov. 10. The Aneona, -bound from Naples to New York, was torpedoed on November 7. Several Americans were 011 board. The 270 survivors, many of whom were wounded 'by shell lire, have reached Tunis. The loss has caused a sensation in America similar to that when the jLusitania was sunk. It is, reported .that 300, mostly women and children, were lost in the Aneona. A hundred shells were fired before the vessel was torpedoed. MURDER MOST FOUL. GERMAN SUBMARINE'S TREACHERY New York, Nov. 10. Hartfield, Solari and Co., agents for the Aneona, announce that there were 432 passengers on Iboard, instead of 422. It is not clear whether the vessel was outward bound or inward, as she might have been delayed on her inward voyage owing to the menace of submarines. Half the passengers were women and children, as it is believed fe.v men were likely to be on board. The Aneona has carried no war munitions at any time, nor has she carried guns. London, Nov. 10. The Aneona was torpedoed off Cape Carbonara. Rome, Nov. 10. Newspapers declare that the submarine was a German one, flying the Austrian (lag. They denounce the act as treachery, because it is not Italy and Germany that are at war. [The Aneona was an Italian liner of 8210 tons register.]
MORE PARTICULARS. LANDING OF THE SURVIVORS. Received Nov. 11, 10.5 p.m. Rome, Nov. 10. Details from Ferryville state that the Ancona was sunk at one o'clock on Sunday. She was torpedoed after being fired on. One hundred and forty of the passengers and crew have arrived at Ferryville, some of whom are wounded and were taken to Jiospital. Their arrival occasioned tremendous excitement. It is hoped that two other boats are heading for the same port, The Ancona carried GO of a crew an(V422 passengers, including Prince Cassano and a famous painter. The Italian submarine and torpedo flotilla is chasing the Austro-Gernian submarines. DESTROYER WRECKED. THE CREW SAVED. London, Nov. 10. The destroyer Louis was stranded and totally wrecked in the. Eastern Mediterranean. All the crew were saved. NEAR GIBRALTAR. GERMAN SUBMARINES SUNK. London, Nov. 10. It is unofficially repofted that a British cruiser sunk two German submarines in the Straits of Gibraltar. IN THE MEDITERRANEAN. A TRANSPORT FIRED ON. j Wellington, Yesterday. The High Commissioner reports under date London, November 10, 9.15 p.m.:—The transport Merican was attacked with gunfire (by an enemy submarine in tbe Mediterranean. She was not Blink, and reached harbor safely. The casualties were: Killed 23, missing 30, wounded 60. TRANSPORT WAS OUTWARD BOUND. Received Nov. 11, 10 p.m. London, Nov. 10. The War Gffice announces that an enemy submarine in the Mediterranean attacked the outward-bound transport Mercian by shellfire. The vessel was not sunk, and reached harbor. Twentythree persons were killed, thirty are missing, and fifty are woiinded. The latter have been sent to hospital.
FIVE VESSELS SUNK. London, Nov, 10. The names have been posted at Lloyd's of five vessels sunk in the Mediterranean, including the Californian, Morrina, Ancona, and a Clan liner. FRENCH LINER SUNK. CREW SAVED. Received Nov. 11, 5.5 p.m. Rome, Nov. 10. A German submarine sunk the French liner La France. The crew were saved.

American captain protests that the British cruiser i 3 waiting outside the harbor in case the Zeelandia emerges, STEAMER ON FIRE. New York, Nov. 10. The Italian steamer Liveietta is on fire off the coast near Galveston, and is being beached, but is expected to become a total loss. The crew is safe. The Liveietta was oil-laden and bound for Italy
