STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday, PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE. At an executive meeting of the Stratford Patriotic Committee, the Rev. C. 11. Howard forwarded his resignation as a member, and Mr. D. J. Malone was appointed to fill the vacancy. Captain 0. W. Williams, officer commanding E Company, fltli N.Z.R.8., wrote the secretary of the Patriotic Com- ] mittee as follows: 'T wish to thank you very warmly for the drum, so generously donated by von for the use of the company, which I have the honor to command, T.ieut. L. Buehler and the men from TaranaKi in the company are particularly proud to be so kindly reminded oi the goodwill of those who represent their own district. Hut I can assure you of the hearty appreciation of all ranks, some 300 officers and men. The drum is a particularly tine one, and will prove of the greatest assistance in training." The lion, secretary reported that the various Funds were as follows:
GEN'ERAI The weather for a A'eek past has been abominable. This afternon, it has has been thundering and raining practically the whole time, spoiling all outdoor sports. Mr. M. Foley, of Victoria Road, had the misfortune to lose a valuable yearling colt this week. It appears that the animal was attacked by a bull, with the result that it had to be destroyed. The Stratford section of the Mounted Rifles, under Captain Wilson, paraded today in fairly large numbers. The weather was too wet to allow the troop to parade in King Edward Park, and the troops performed various evolutions in Broadway North. Major Henty was present on parade. The Postmaster-General has informed Mr. J. B. Hine i M.P., that regarding the request by the Stratford Chamber of Commerce for the erection of a new Post Office for Stratford, that although £4OOO was voted on the Estimates for the work, he regrets it will not be possible to undertake it this year.
