CIRCULAR ROAD RACE.
ANNUAL MEETIXO. Tlie annual meeting of the Circular Road Race Committee was held last night, Mr. E. Whittle presiding over a small attendance. The following report was submitted:— "Your committee, in presenting their annual report regret having had to abandon last year's race owing to so many of the riders having joined , the Expeditionary Force. This decision was only arrived fit after considerable discussion and thoroughly weighing the question, and then only at the last moment. Your committee trust that you will agree with them that it was a wise move and that subsequent events proved that had the race been held it would have proved a financial failure. As it was, a certain amount of expense had been incurred, but, thanks to several ardent supporters, ways and means were found to raise the necessary funds, and your committee have much pleasure in reporting a credit balance of £'2B 19.s 6cl. "Your Committee wish to sincerely thank all those who so generously offered to contribute towards the prizes for last year's race, and also to Mr. Arnold George for the trouble he went to in securing the same. Thanks are also due to many others, too numerous to mention, who materially assisted in raising funis and bringing about such a satisfactory financial position. "Regarding this year's race, your committee do not think it advisable to proceed with it, and suggest that the matter be left in abeyance until such time as the war is over, when they trust that all will return safely and a good clean sport be taken up again with renewed vigor. It is with deep regret your committee have to report the deatli of one of their most valuable members, namely, Mr. George Tabor, who from its inception took a very keen interest in the road race, and was one of the hardest workers for the cause.
"Your committee would suggest that efforts he made by the Association to assist the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, and that committees be set up for the purpose of raising fmuls."
Mr. Whittle said it was a matter of congratulation in a way that they were not able to holtl tile race, as it went to wove that the cycle men were doing their bit for their country. Tie would far rather «ee the race abandoned, if it meant getting the men to the front. Sport, in all branches had done its share, and its members would be found on the roll of honor The balance-sheet showed a most satisfactory statement. He moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. These were adopted.
It was decided that the election of officers be left over until such times as warranted the working up of the next road race, the present committee to continue to be the visible life of the race.
In connection with the disposal of the funds. .€lO was voted to the Mayor's Patriotic Fund for the wounded soldiers. The secretary was voted £5, he having intimated his intention to forego bis honorarium of £lO.
An outstanding account of £l2 for car hire was passed for payment.
Votes of thanks were accorded the president, secretary, and to Mr. Arnold George for services rendered.
