THE CALICIAN OFFENSIVE. OYINSK SAFE. Petrograd, Nov. 7. The initiative in Galicia is with the Russians, who between November 1 and 4, by means •of sharp blows on the Strypa, captured 28,000 men and 14 cannon. Paris, Nov; 7. ' M. Nadeau says that the general situation at Riga and Dvinsk ia most satisfactory. Dvinsk is the key to the Dwina line. The German prospects of capturing the town grow more hopeless and they have fallen back five versts, abandoning fortified trenches. Everything bears testimony to the rehabiiitation of the Russian artillery, which often silences that of the enemy. Amsterdam, Nov. 7. A German communique says:—The tTT a^ ack * near n,uks t an d "sen tailed. The Russians penetrated our positions, 0 „t were afterwards ejected. Petrograd, Nov. 6. We captured 734 men and two guns westward of Rafalovka, on the Strv and also 850 C prisoners at Seykovtze. RUSSIAN SUCCESSES. HURLING THE ENEMY BACK. Received Nov. 8, 9.5 p.m. . „ . London, Nov. 8. A Kussian communique says: We forced the Germans to retire southwest of Riga, dispersed the enemy on the JJvina, and took trenches near Lake Seventeen. Enemy attacks at the Strya were repulsed. ' A GERMAN CONFESSION. RUSSIAN BRAVERY. Received Nov. 8, 8.6 pjn. London, Nov. 8 An undispatched letter found on the body of a German officer on the Eastern front says that the Russians are fighting as they never fought before. The German failures are due to the recent drafts proving worthless; they are ready to bolt at the moment theßiusipns appear.
