CALL TO ARMS.
FOUn RECRUITS YE3TERPAY AXOTilliil CUiEVAXC:'. Four men ciliated nt Mr. A. B. 1..N----son's recruiting ofliee at N\.\,- ?lyiUout!i yesterday. They are:— James Watson, blacksmith, Oionui. Kenneth Okev Sloh<\ firm lu.ud, X<-„ l'lymoulh. KiVik Wil.'ord fowli:.,", -arm hand, Tiil:\ruinmk:>. J'l-ed W. Dixon, ihemi.it, Mew PlylilOUih. All ihe wtlevside 'workers who regvteicd at -Mr. Cibson's office have row been examined. Two men classified as waterside workers are not smb. on« being a metal worker ai Moturoa, and the other an engineer. The latter has agreed to present hiiuseli for examination next Thursday afternoon at the Drill Hall. Two waterside workers have recently presented themselves to tht doctor,"one at the Defence Office and thu other at the doctor's private residence. The Waterside Workers' Union take exception to the nppar.'nt t]\r caut upon them, and. Mr. (.ibson, who r,:'.;'-!'ed us with the information, desires to d!.-.-.insocialc himself fiom i.ny desire to reflect upon this very patriotic and loym body of men. Mr, Gibson h:.s now rc;;is tercd sixty-one men, and very few of them are unexamined. Mr. Gibson yesterday brought two men to the News olliee who have a grievance. One man lives fill miles from New Plymouth, and the other I,"> miles, and they came to this town lo register last Saturday. As it U very inconvenient for them lo come at any time they desired to be put through tile medical test that day. but the doctor could not attend to tiiem then, hut he fixed an appointment for 1..10 p.m. yesterday. The* men came to town to keep the appointment, and they stated they had waited until after three o'clock, but the doctor had been unable to attend to them. They could not wait any iou:'". as then- 'bus left at 3.. W. and so they returned home after two frnitlo.'n visits. The men express.! counts at being rude to spare another da; co come to New Plymouth, and to it is probable that two excellent recruits have been lost through the fact that only one doctor has been called upon to examine recruits. The doctor has his ;v,-;vr.te pwetiee to attend to, ind he enni'.ot c'.J impossibilities, but if other medi;.:! r,v:n were permitted to hup him lopa 1 -, recruits the difficult/ would he oveivi.iv.j to some, extent. This instan?e ve mention is typical of many vM.ia have occurred at New Plymouth htely. The Defence, Department., is issu't,;,, shortly, a carefully prepared h-;!idlm<.'; for recruits, giving particulars *■.' nu/.tment, physical requirements, pa,', pro motion, pensions and disablement allowances, and other information o? rse to intending rcci-uits.
