STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Monday. The Dardanelles Market on Saturday was again a success, under the supervision of Mesdames Paget, Massey, and Curtis, £25 being the result of the day's effort.
Mr. J. McMillan, secretary of the Patriotic Committee, acknowledges receipt of £203 from the Toko branch of the Patriotic Committee for the Red Cross Funds. Toko settlers are to be congratulated on such a fine response. Private Flynii, of Te Were, writing to his brother, relates a coincidence that befel him while in hospital in England. After he had been there some days, another wounded New Zealander was placed alongside him, and he was surprised to find that it was Private John Petrie, another Stratford boy. Needless to say, Private Flynn was more than pleased to know that he had as a bed mate a Stratford boy to converse with. The Stratford A. 'and -P. Association are receiving numerous enquiries for schedules, and the president ane. secretary, who have just returned from Palmcrston North, report that they have received fine support from exhibitors in that district. From present indications the show will be equal to past shows.
The gale on Saturday caused a great deal of damage to the telephone wires in the country districts. The linesmen are still bus) repairing them, and it will be some days yet before'they are in normal working order Wool buyers are at present operating m this district. Several clips have been sold for 13d f.0.r., Slratford.
The Stratford Wounded Soldiers' Fund now amounts to £2091.
Donations to the Bed Cross Funds for the Stratford district, received by the secretary of the Patriotic Committee, amount to £321 lis.
