SUPREME COURTS.

A CHARGE OF MURDER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Chriafchurch, Yesterday. At the Magistrate's Court, Mary Ami Reid, charged with the murder of her illegitimate children (twins), at Islington, was remanded to November 10. The woman had just been discharged from the hospital.

DISCHARGED. Dunedin. Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, William Lawrence Hooper was acquitted on a charge of receiving revenue official stamps, valued at .1140, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained.

NOT A GUILTY MIND.

Wellington, Last Night.

The Supreme Court sessions commenced to-day, before Mr. Justice Chapman. The list is an ordinary one. his Honor remarking that it was satisfactory to find no increase in crime. The jury found Frederic'k Smith guilty of theft, but recommended him to mercy. In reply to the Judge, the foreman said the jury agreed that the prisoner had not had the guilty mind of a thief. The judge accepted that as a verdict of not guilty. Smith's defence had been that lie had committeed several thefts at a boarding-house while under the influence of drink.
