'An exciting incident occurred during a public farewell to some Nelson recruits on the eve of their departure for Trentham camp last week. Among those present were a party of Maori dancers from Canvastown. The dancers gave a "battle-axe" display, and one of the Maori girls, in the exuberance of her feelings, swung her "axe" with such vigor that a chance blow damaged a slide trombone in the hands of 011 c of the 12th Regiment bandsmen.
