MANAWATU SHOW.
IMPORTANT DISPLAY AT PALMERSTON. PROCEEDINGS OPEN TO-DAY. The North Island's biggest agricultural show opens at Palmerston North to-day, and promises to be of unusual interest. Preparations are well forward, and there is more than the usual enthusiasm this year owing to the fact that the proceeds of the show are to go to the patriotic fund. In conjunction with the show the Manawatu Patriotic Society is holding a fair in the spacious machinery hall, which means an additional attraction.
As regards the show itself, it is to be, weather permitting, an advance on previous exhibitions. The old cattle pens are now a thing of the past, and a very fine cattle pavilion has been erected on two new sections of land recently brought into the actual show grounds. That this progressive move is appreciated by the cattle breeders is shown by the fact that, notwithstanding the scarcity of laboi, the entries are ahead of last yeaiv each division being well represented. /
An indication of the national character of the show is given by the fact that entries have been received from Southland, Otago, Canterbury, Marlborough, Wellington, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, and Auckland.
His Excellency the Governor and Lady Liverpool have consented to be present? on Friday next, people's day.
Excursion trains will be run as usual from Auckland and other stations in the North Island. Palmerston North is beginning to liisume its show air. Exhibits are arriving and the influx of visitors has commenced. *
