CONDUCT OF THE WAR.
GENERAL JOFFRE'S VISIT. COMMON MEASURES DECIDED ON. Received Nov. 1, 10.60 p.m. Pifris, Nov. 1. Le Temps says that General Joffre met Lord Kitchener to decide on common measures. The nearest result will be the sending of reinforcements to Salonika. It is reported that a Greek demonstration in favor of siding with the Allies is being arranged.
COMPREHENSIVE ACTION. NEW ARMIES TO BE ORGANISED. Received Nov, 1, 10-">0 p.m. London, Xov. 1. The Daily Chronicle says that as a result of General Joffre's visit there will be comprehensive action. New armies will be organised which may result in a check to the enemy equal to that of the Marne.
RADICAL CHANGES NEEDED. LORD LANSDOWNE'S SPEECH. Received Nov. 1, 11.30 p.m. London, Nov. 1. Lord Sydenham, in a letter to the Times, says that what we have failed in is in the superior direction of the war. If we deserve tlie confidence of the people at Home and Overseas, the methods must be radically changed. The Empire looks to Mr. Asquith for an assurance that a system which has plainly failed shall be abandoned, and such mistakes rendered impossible in future. The Paris Journal says that lord Lansdowne's. speech has caused much disappointment.
