ADVICE TO DAIRYMEN.

HOW TO INCREASE THE YIELD.

ONLY TOUCHED THE FRINGE.

In speaking at the; opening of t!ie Patua Dairy Factory yesterday, Mr. A. Morton, chairman of the National Dairy Association, gave some sound advice on the question of increasing the milk production. Referring to the progress that had been made in the dairying industry during the past twenty-five years, he said that there was still room for much further development, for he was satisfied that there was not one farm in the district that was producing to its utmost capacity. This applied not alone to their own district but to every district. Id was necessary to use the best methods, and improve their system of farming and their herds so as to increase the mill; production. Th<"> —_..,u then considerable- 1; ' the burden and tu : .Vtory would prove none too : large. He was going to give a few words of advice, but would first say that they all knew that so far as the producing capabilities of their farms were concerned, they had only yet touched the fringe, and were not getting anything like the capacity they should if tliev used the right methods. They must farm more intensely, use the ),luiii:li where po-.sible, give liberal application uf manures so as to produce two blade-, of where only one grew now. If they studied soiling and j produced more green feed, they would not only keep up a large supply of milk I in the spring and summer, but in the j autumn and winter also. This he con-

sidered, was essential. In connection with their herds, lie iiiiproisi'd on them the necessity for improvement, and tin-re was no better wuy than bv testing the individual cows.' Some of tliosj present liad already found immense benefit from t';is, as it enabled them to know the poorer cows which a. practical larnwr culled om and replaced. (When they Hauled a sire for their herds lie urged them to <r„ for a bull whose dam had a good milk record, so that the lieiiers like his dam would have yield-producing capabilities.
