The new system of carrying out mudiujil examinations was instituted at the Coronation Hall yesterday afteroon, when l)i'. Fooke* was in attendance. It is the intention to have tile examinations every Thursday afternoon. While the sy.-Lein lias its merit, yesterday's work showed that some change is required—either, the doctor must have tha assistance of one or two other medical men, or tile examinations mu.it he hebl more than once n week. Righted men were dealt with yesterday, and, although Dr. Fookes tarried out his work as e~:J peditiously as po-iiblc, some of the recruits iin.il to wait for a considerable time —a state of all'airs which is >ieit!iei\ fair to tlie men nor the doctor. Several, of the eighteen men who were examine. 1 , were rejected. The urgent appeal wlii.h was made at New Plymouth, the other day, for twelve infantry-men and three mounted men to go to Trentham did not produce one response. The .-hortuess of the notice was, no doubt, the reason for this, but the failure of the district to supply the lueVi required is not creditable. Tiie Xew Plymouth Club lias generously offered to make men who hare been accepted fur service honorary members of the institution whiie they ale ill Xew Plymouth. The men who enlisted vc.-t"r,biv are:

Alexander Wright, farmer. I.o;>[ici ton. Niels Knlor Christeineii, New Plymouth.
