FOUR RECRUITS YESTERDAY. Four men registered for service at th« New Plymouth Defence Office and at Mr. A. C. (iibson's office yesterday, This total represents one of the weakest recruiting days at New Plymouth, and a very much brisker response is required to ensure plenty of men being available for the December quota. To-day the system of carrying out medical examinations of recruits at the Coronation Hall will be commenced. The doctor will be in attendance at two o'clock, and th» same arrangement will be in force every Thursday afternoon in future. The position in North Taranaki up to last night is as follows: Next Reinforcements The Tentht Go into camp (about) November 15 Dominion's total Taranaki's quota New Plymouth's quota 7° Men already enrolled 156 Yesterday's recruits 4 Days left to enlist 17 The men who enlisted yesterday are:— AT THE DEFENCE OFFICE. A new scheme for assisting recruits' with treatment has been outlined by the Hon. J. Alien. "The New Zealand Dental Association," he sail, "has been very good in offering to assist us as far ns lies in its power, and we have agreed to use its services. Tho first examination of a medical man wlio wants io enlist will he conducted by a medical man and by a dentist. The dentist will pay special attention to the mouth and chart the teeth, and the association is prepared to assist 11* throughout New Zealand in the treatment of those who want something done to lit them as soldiers. Those able to pay will be expected to do so. Those who cannot afford to pay will be assisted, either by friends or associations or by the Government. We are making l arrangements to extend the facilities in Trentham camp, at any rate, for the treatment of the teeth. We already have a dentist there Who treats tho men in camp, but we arc going to put up better accommodation and increase the staff to three dentists and a dental mechanic, so that more work will ■be done there. Work 'begun outside, which a member of the association says can be completed in camp, may be completed there, and that will get rid of a great many difficulties so far as I can gather. Then we hop? out of this movement to form an army dental service, the same as the army' medical service, and have it included in our arm, list. Dr. Hunter, of Dunedin, and Dr. Pickersgill, professor of dentistry at the University of Otago, are to he the advising dentists to the Defence Department to see this scheme carried through. Re-u----lations are being drafted, ..and I hope "to have the scheme in operation befuro long."
