ENTERTAINMENTS.
THE EMPIRE. Vitagraph's society drama, "An Affair for the Police" is the main attraction on to-night's new collection of film subjects. It is a detective* story of an unusual sort, dealing with the upper classes in America, and the most experienced solver of mysteries cannot guess who committed the robbery. It is fascinating, mysterious till the last scene. Other films are' "The Shoal Light" (a twopart Domino drama), "Making Steel Rails" (Interest), "Rover the Peacemaker" (comic), the latest Australian Gazette, "Mud and Matrimony" (comedy) and Keystone's latest comedy, "Fatty's Faithful Fido."
ROYAL PICTURES. A great big human play is Lulnn's "The Band of Womanhood," showing at the head of a powerful list of new ftlm.3 at the Theatre next Saturday ait 2.30 and 8. The supporting programme includes "A Chip of the Old Block" (Edison drama), "Out for a Stroll" (Lubin comedy), "Mystic Moustacheless Magician" (Thanhouser Comedy), the "Wellington Queen Carnival Procession" will provide an interesting quarter of an hour. A Keystone comedy is included and is entitled "The Versatile Villain," telling the story of desperate Dan, Gunman and Gigamist. Seats may be reserved at Hoffmann's.
