ANITA STEWART. Last night at the Empire the above widely popular screen beauty, who shares with Mary > Pickford the title of the world's greatest film actress, appeared with Earle Williams and Julia Swayne Gordon in a three-part dramatic novelty by the Vitagraph Company, entitled "Two Women." The story tells of an erring wife who, mistaking the dross for the gold and carried away by the lure of riches and pleasure, commences a flirtation with her husband's employer, that finally ends in tragedy. The husband divorces her, and leaves her to reap where she has sown. Married to the cause of her trouble, she yearns for the lover of humbler days. At length a fracas at a casino frees her, and she sets out in seacli of her one-time husband. She finds him happy in the lo've of a maiden of the woodlands at a little home in the forest clearing. She turns away from the lover 3, anguished and hopeless. The supporting items include "Making Shell and Shrapnel," a film of great interest, specially taken at Kynoch's works. A private screening of this was recently given to the 'Minister and officers of the Defence Deupartment, and was warmly commended. ' Other films are: "Pathe Gazette," "Mountain to Plain," scenic; "Mabel's Wilful Way," a captivating Keystone; and "The Man he Might Have Been," a drama with a. big lesson for some men, ~ ROYAL PICTURES "The Mystic Moustacheless Magician," a Thanhouser comedy featuring Little Herman, the tiny comedian, opens Saturday's new programme at the Theatre Royal. Next comes Edison's stirring drama, "A Chip of the Old Block"; then we have a very interesting number of the Australian Gazette. Another film of interest is the Wellington Queen Carnival procession. The star drama on this fine programme is by the Lubin Co., entitled "The Bond of Womanhood," a play after the style of "East Lynne." and will be found more effective. The remaining comedies are: "Out for a Stroll" and "The Versatile Villain," by the Keystone Company. Seats may bo reserved at Hoffmann's.
