A BUSY SESSION.

MATTERS OF INTEREST Tu TAUMiARIJNUI. The past session of Parliament was probably the most trying one in New Zealand since the time of the Maori wars. The terrific struggle that our Dominion is sharing with other parts of the British Empire brought its claims on every M.P.. who, outside of ordinary domestic political questions that required' attention were overwhelmed with correspondence enquiring about relations at Egypt and the Dardanelles. A number of matters dealing with the Taranaki portion of the Taumarunui electorate was brought before Parliament by the M.P. for the district last session as follows:—Petition from residents at Pukearuhe for telephonic ex-, tension was recommended for favorable consideration. A petition from the same for acquisition of land In the district for closer settlement produced a long debate in the House. This petition was opposed by the M.P.'s for figment and Stratford and the Department. It has now transpired that there was a misunderstanding; the opposing parties were dealing with a blocTc of land that the petitioners at Pukearuhe had not mentioned in any way. The application of the Workmen's Home Act to Waitara and the continuation of the daily mail service to Awnkino received favorable replies from the Government.
