MOA ROAD BOARD.

SPECIAL MEETIWa. A special meeting of the Moa Soad Board was held at inglewood on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs. H. Trimble (chairman), J. Stacker, A. E, Lawrence, M. Hopson, G. Qtongh, G. Capper, W. G. Shoemark, and C A. Bridgeman. NEW MACHINERY. The first matter dealt with was the purchase of machinery. After receiving reports from the overseer on various stone crushers, the Board decided to secure an eight-ton Avelmg and Porter traction engine and roller, costing £B3O, and a Collet crusher with elevator screen complete at £340.

The chairman said that provided the necessary arrangements could be made with the bank, and he did not expect any difficulty, the machinery could be paid for out of overdraft, and an additional rate could be struck next year to meet that.

To Mr. Capper, the chairman said" that last year, 200 yards of metal was used. Mr. Capper said that while they had the whole riding he was not opposed to machinery, but with part of the riding merged, and another part contemplating merging, he thought that it would be too big a handicap for the remaining portion.

It was resolved that the Board procure the machinery providing satisfactory arrangements can be made with the bank.

The chairman was authorised to arrange, if possible, to procure a roller which has just been shipped, and could be delivered in two months.

Mr. Lawrence expressed the opinion that 2s per yard would be saved by procuring the crusher, and this would more than pay the interest on three plants. Moreover, he expected that they would have to pay stone-breakers more than 3s 3d per yard this year, and would probably have difficulty in procuring sufficient breakers. On the motion of Messrs. Lawrence and Hopson, it was decided to discontinue rolling after the work now in hand is completed, until the arrival of the new roller. GENERAtt The engineer submitted a list of metal requirements for the ensuing year. This was adopted with slight modification, and tenders will be called. The chairman reported that the overseer has arranged to continue with the Board for, at least, six months at the salary offered.
