They included tributes from the oversea dominions. Japan, and other Allies. There were 110 patriotic meetings held in support of Lord Derby's campaign, > A thousand picture theatres showed * naval films, and a half-hour's address upon the navy was given in twenty thousand schools. _ For the great Red Cross appeal in i London on the occasion of the Trafalgar' anniversary there were manv thousands of lady collectors, though the weather was showery In Trafalgar* Square there was n memorable scene. The base of the Nelson Column was smothered with wreaths, and from the pedestals, between the liona, the voices of recruiters floated over dense crowds. At intervals the people were thrilled bv the clear notes of a trumpeter, playing' "The Death of Nelson." The service at St. Martin s-in-the-Fields was impressive by its solemnity and simplicity. The Bishop'* impassioned appeal and denunciation of Miss Cavell's murderers deeplv stirred the congregation. Many Red Cross collector* were on duty at the early markets at 3.30 a.m. The collections by Australian* in the Strand from the sale of flag* and kan"a- ' roo souvenirs will 1«. devoted to the ■ • Dardanelles.
