BOTHA MAJORITY ASSURED. THE GENERAL ELECTIONS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Capetown, Oct. 21. Mr. Smuts, Mr. Sampson (the Laborito Whip), Sir Abe Bailey, Sir James Percy Fitzpatrick have been elected. Mr. Ocsswell (the Labor leader) was defeated in two places. Messrs Poutsina and Andrews (Laborites) were defeated at Serfontein. A Nationalist imprisoned during the rebellion was elected for Kroonstad, defeating Mr. De Wet (Minister of Justice). Sir J. B. Robinson (Independent) was elected for Ransdfontein, Sir ,T. Harris (Independent) for Beaeonsfield, and Sir Charles Crewe (Unionist) for East London. General Botha's nominee for Potchefstroom, where the rebellion was hatched, was elected by a three to two majority. A striking feature was that in urban centres there were large Unionist majorities over the Laborites. There was heavy polling throughout the Union. At Durban, Kentridge (Laborite) defeated Henwood (Unionist) for Durban j Central.

TWO MINISTERS DEFEATED. Received Oct. 22, 11.33 p.m. Capetown, Oct. 22. A feature of tlie elections was the complete collapse of Labor in tlie great urban constituencies. The Unionists made a successful raid on the Cape constituencies in the Free State. Ministers Thereon and Burton were defeated, but a Bothaite majority is assured.
