WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Yesterday. A printer's error crept into your report of the North Taranaki League's account of the amount of money received by them. It appeared as being £lOOl, but should have read £4OOI. There wbb only the small difference of £3000! Mr. R. A. Morgan, of the post office staff, is being transferred to the Wellington gallery. Whittaker Street, which has presented a rather dilapidated appearance for some time, is now receiving attention. A "bull" was unconsciously perpetrated 'by one of our leading business men yesterday morning. Accosting a carter, whose services ho required, he said: "Have you an empty load this afternoon? If not, I want you to take something for me." There was a fair attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Tennis and Croquet Club last evening, in Mr. Vaughan's office. The president, Mr. S. G. Eraser, occupied the chair. Owing to a number of last year's players having enlisted and others resigning, the membership haa been considerably reduced. It was decided to close two of the courts and raise the subscriptions. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. W. T. Jennings, MJP.j president, Mr, S. G. Fraser; vice-presi-dents: Messrs H. E. Vaughan, J, T. W. Collier, and L. H. Sampson; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. Dewhirst; committee, Messrs E, A. Hawkins, D. L. Tate, G. A. Thompson, E. Collier, and A, Limmer. It was decided that the opening of the season take place about the second week in November, and also that a collection Ibe taken on that appointed day in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Messrs L. Johnston, Geogahan and Ogle were elected new members.
