CLOSING HOURS OF HOTELS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright . Sydney, Oct. 20. The Labour Caucus approved a proposal to introduce a Bill this session providing for the opening of hotels at B,o'clock and the closing at 10 o'clock. Brisbane, Oct. 20. A mass meeting passed a resolution urging the Government to take a referendum on the subject of the early closing of hotels. NEW UNION COMPANY OFFICE. Sydney, Oct. 19. The City Council has approved the Union Steamship Company's scheme to erect handsome commodious offices at the corner of George and Market Streets on the most approved American ideas of steel construction. It is the first building of the kind. REGULATION OF PRICES. Sydney, Oct. 19. The Master Bakers' Federal Convention passed a resolution that the Government control of food prices was not beneficial, and should be discontinued. WAGES FOR LABORERS. Sydney, Oct. 20. Mr. Justice Higgins lias called a compulsory conference of the Storenien and backers' Union and the employers in all States except Westralia, owing to the refusal of the latter to grant the increase of wages demanded. The wheelers at the Hepburn and Pelawmain collieries have struck, demanding payment of the new Newcastle rate. The Newcastle and Maitland minors delegates are approaching the employers for a conference. They stated that a, strike was not desired.
