THE ELECTIONS TO-DAY. A BITTER CONTEST. Received Oct. 19, 5.5 p.m. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) London, Oct. 18. The Times' correspondent at Capetown says there is unparalleled bitterness over the elections. Out of 130 seats only eight are not contested. There is a complete split in tyic old South African party, as indicated by an analysis of the contests. There, are 86 Ministerialists, 83 Nationalists, 39 Unionists, and 49 Labor contests, and only three three-cornered contests, where the parties have put aside their differences until the war is finished, for the purpose of combating the common enemy. The Nationalist speakers' malignity has aroused furious antagonism, towards General Botha, particularly among the poorer and more ignorant Dutch, and it is impossible to predict Wednesday's results.
