HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the New Plymouth High School Board was held last night, when there were present: Messrs. E. Dockrill (chairman), W. N. Ewing, M. Fraser, D. Hutchen, H. Trimble.. J. S. Fox, A. McHardy, and P. Webster. Leave of absence was granted Dr. Fookes and Mr. Atkinson. PRINCIPAL'S REPORT. Mr. W. H. Moye3 (Principal of the Boys' School), reported that Mr. 1 McDonald had arrived, and bad taken over the work of Mr. Espiner. Mr. McKinney would join the staff at the end of the present month. In connection with the erection of a building for woodwork, he estimated that a suitable building, equipped with benches .would cost £150.About an acre of land was now planted in vegetables. He asked permission to purchase a spray pump as the potatoes, half-an-acre, were showing signs of Wight. The pump would also be useful for the orchard. A new book caee would be most acceptable for the library. One of the most pleasing features of the boarding life had been the great interest taken in the library, which had become probably the most popular of the s'ehool institutions. The spray pump will be secured, but it was resolved to defer discussion of 'erection of a woodwork room until after the financial position re .the building j scheme had been discovered. GENERAL. The action of two of the members ,in arranging for the lease of St. Andrew's Hall as a class room for the girls' school was confirmed. On the motion of Messrs. Fraser and Fox, it was resolved to allow a rebate of half boarding fees in the case of a ■boarder absent continuously for more than half the term. No allowance will be made if the boarder is absent less than half the term. Parents will be notified of this resolution. The Board then went into committee j to discuss various matters.
