A COSTLY CAMPAIGN. London, Oct. la. It is announced that the total British casualties at the Dardanelles till October 9 were 90,899, and those of Australia and New Zealand 29,121. WHEAT MARKET AFFECTED. , >. New York, Oct. 15. Chicago reports a sharp advance in the price of wheat, due to reports that ■ the British and French intend to leave the Dardanelles and operate elsewhere, leaving Russian wheat still unmarketed. THE LONDON RAID. GERMAN REPORTS. ; Berlin, Oct. 15. Official: Our naval airships encountered a vigorous counter action when they reached the English coast, where they dropped bombs. ' The City of London' sustained several attacks. London, Oct. 15. The Germans claim that their airships dropped many bombs on the docks, waterworks, and important establishments in London and Woolwich, and ibat-teries at Ipswich. There were big • lites and explosions. Despite a vigorous attack all returned undamaged. , THE DAMAGED AIRSHIP. Rotterdam, Oct. 15. Several Zeppelins were observed yesterday, flying south-easterly. One was maimed and waa flying low with jerky movements and at an eccentric • angle. The Dutch guards fired on it. It disappeared towards the German frontier ,in great distress. L BALKANS. ' ATTITUDE OF GREECE. London, Oct. 15. A Note to Britain by Greece announces her definite decision not to intervene on 'behalf of Serbia at present. SERBIA DECLARES WAR. London, Oct. 15. Official: Serbia has declared war on Bulgaria. UNITED STATES. IMPRISONING GERMAN OFFICERS. Washington, Oct. 15. The disappearance of six officers interned on the German cruiser Kronprinz Wilhelm has led the Government to order the practical imprisonment of the remaining German officers a/hoard interned ships in American waters. AUSTRALIA. QUEENSLAND MUNITION'%ORKS. Brisbane, Oct. MS. Discussing the ( use of the Chillagoe Works for the manufacture of munitions, the Premier said he hoped the company had made complete arrangements for munition making, otherwise the Government would take them over and operate them. SEDITIOUS PAMPHLET. - Sydney, Oct, 10. Mr. Black received through the post a seditious pamphlet headed "Manifesto of the Indian National Party." It contained illustrations representing alleged atrocities on Indians and Persians, which are palpably faked. The postal authorities are nvestigating the matter. DUTCH MISSIONARIES FINED. Sydney, Oct. 1(1. Two Dutch missionaries, recent arrivals were lined £25 and £lO respectively for bringing and posting- Gorman let-' ters, contrary to the War Precautions Act. MURDERED BY ARABS. : - Melbourne, Oct. 16. , Official details published of the deaths of Lieutenants (i. P. Merz and Burn, cabled on August 3D, show that the officers were taking part in an expedition to establish a depot at Asasullabig and failed to return. Their aeroplane was discovered broken, but its identity was established on landing, Tlie political officers later discovered that the murder had been committed by travelling Bedouins, three of whom were wounded and one killed by the aviators. One concerned in the murder is awaiting trial, and large rewards have been offered for the apprehension of the others. The aviators' bodies have not been discovered. (Lieutenant W. E, Burn was a Cfuristolrarch boy.)
