A COUNTER-ATTACK.

\ SUCCESS FOR THE FRENCH. OFFICIAL REPORT. Received Oct. 18, 12.30 a.m. Paris, Oct. 17. A communique states: We completely repulsed German attacks at Buesenhache, Arthos, and on the northern slope of Souchez valley. Trench fighting continues south of the Somme-Libore-Ones-noy-Santerre line. The enemy are using "tear" sheila, socalled because of the effect of the gases upon the eyes. In the Champagne, bomb and grenade lighting is proceeding. In the Argonne, north of La Ilouyette and Vanquois, a vigorous counter-attack enabled us to recapture all positions on the summit of Hartmann's and Weillerkopf, and also to capture a fort. A squadron of aeroplanes on Saturday bombed Sablons station and Metz. Numerous hits were observed on the station and on a moving train
