A CONCISE REPLY, Many stories have been told about long telegraphic messages sent by women, as if the feminine mind was incapable of expressing itself concisely. How false and slanderous such an impression is is well shown by the following incident. A gentleman went to Sydney on business. As he left he said something to liis wife about buvin» her a new dress. Just before he' started homeward he wired to his wife. "Which shall I bring you— a diamond ring or a silk dress?" The reply was concise and explicit—"Both." "
HIS OFF-HAND WAY. "I don't quite see the poiut of that lcrnark of yours/' said the grorer, as he tied up the package of sugar. "What remark was that?" asked the customer. "You just remarked that some men had an offhand way of doing things and you wished I was one." ' "Yes; I wished to remind you that your hand was on the sugar when you weighed it." " '
