RUSSIA.
THE GERMAN CHECK. ENEMY SHORT OF MEN. Received Oct, 15, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 14. The Daily Chronicle's Petrograd correspondent says that when General Mackensen was called away to the Serbian front General von Linsingen took command, but at the crucial moment General Wansff wrested the initiative and pierced the front where the armies of General Bothmer had experienced a check, due to the outflanking of General Bothmer's forces and the isolating of Genera] Pefflantzer's army. There is no question at present of further attempts on the part of the Germans to advance on Rovno. No more troops can be detached for Serbia, and, in fact, it may be necessary to despatch Austrian* who were destined for Serbia to Galicia.
ON THE CAUCASUS FRONT. TURKISH TROOPS WIPED OUT. Reecived Oct. 15, 10.50 p.m. Petrograd, Oct. 15. A communique says: There is obstinate fighting at various points on the Caucasian frontier. We annihilated a Turkish detachment southward of Lake Van.
