DEATH OF A TROOPER.
«* THE INQUEST. A NEW TABLET IN USE. By Telegraph.—jPt ess Association. Hamilton, Last Night. The inquest on Private McGec, who died as the result of injuries received by contact with a tablet arm at Taupiri station while'leaning from a window on the troop train from Auckland to Trentham on Tuesday evening, was opened before Mr. Rawson, S.M., to-day. Hyland, another injured man. said he was standing on the platform of the carriage next the engine, waving to people on the station, when ' lie was struck by the tablet arm. On entering the carriage he found MeGee lying in a pool of blood on the floor. The inquest was adjourned. The tablet in use at Taupiri was recently installed, and is a new design, now under going trial, of a two-arm project, which when released moves one upwards and the other downwards. The explanation given by the officials is that on the tablet arm being struck by Ilyland the steelwork bent and janibcd against a wooden pillar which remained fixed. MeGee was struck by the bent steelwork, which remained a danger to the whole train, and had others been leaning out there is little doubt more would have been injured,
