CORRESPONDENCE.

THE MOTUROA ROAD. To the Editor. Sir, —Wo. the undersigned business people of Moturon, desire through the medium of your valuable paper to place in record our appreciation of the treatment we arc at last receiving at the hands of the recently appointed engineer and roads foreman. We will, within the course of a week, have to our various business places a road upon which our customers and ourselves will be able to travel without risk of life and limb which we have had for the past seven months owing to the unbusinesslike management and neglect we have been subjected to, and we trust that now the borough is so fortunate as to have the services of such capable men that they will be given all the support possible. Thanking tou in anticipation.—Yours faithfull^ ' MOTUKOA BUSINESS PEOPLE. (Miss Trott, (Ihas. A. Sansom, H. Rielly, C. N. Williams.) REC'ItUI T! NO S P KEOHES. To the Editor. Sir,—ls your paragraph In this morning's issue, quoting part of a speech by the Mayor of Ifawera (Mr. Dixon).' when he says that the young men who could go and don't go "were as bad as these Germans who had been guilty of such atrocities as they had been told of," correct? Surely Mr. Dixon was carried away in the heat of the moment when lie made such a statement. I think if I hart been at that meeting J would have jumped up and asked the Miiyini to withdraw such a scandalous remark. Docs lie think that that sort of language will help recruiting? I am surprised that a gentleman holding the high office of Mayor should stoop to siii'li language. Don't let us get hysterical over this Avar and lose our heads. AYe must keep a brave front to the enemy and encourage our boys in a decent manner to see their duty without going Into ifpivorthy methods.—l am, etc., PATRIOTIC.
