np. LOSS OF MAILS FOR THE TROOPS. By Telegraph.—'PTess Assoeiati&j:. Wellington, Yesterday. A private letter from Egypt, received in Wellington, states that on August u a lighter, containing 29 bags of New Zealand mails, was sunk by Turkish gunfire oil' Gaba Tepe, and on the same day another lighter, with 31 bags of mail matter from the Dominion, capsized, and all the mails were lost. DISORDERLY TRIMMERS. Wellington, Yesterday. William Price and John Joseph Digr.an, trimmers, who signed on articles on ships chartered by the Government for special purposes, were charged with a breach of a contract made under the War Regulations Act. The men came ashore, got drunk, and were arrested. There was difficulty in rilling their places and serious delay and inconvenience was caused to the ships. The men denied it was their intention to desert. Their clothes were on board. Each was sentenced to a month's imprisonment and fined for drunkenness.
