■—..... ,„. «» Professor von Zedlitz, of Wellington, is on a brief visit to New Plymouth. Mr. C. M. Lepper, who has been confined to his house by illness for some time, was in town yesterday, ■ having greatly improved in health. The Rev. W. A. Butler, who is shortly proceeding to England, left for Auckland last night. Mr. T. C. Stanners, of Eltham, who underwent a serious operation a few days ago, is reported to have come through it satisfactorily. Mr. Flavell, Rotokare, has received word from the Defence authorities that his son has been wounded, and is iu the Manchester Hospital, Dn J. P. Whetter, of Ohristchurch, who left for London a few weeks ago to offer hia services to the War Office, has been appointed to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Mr, T. Linn (Mangatoki), who has been ill for 'some time, and has undergone an operation following upon pneumonia, is now on the way to recovery, Previous to leaving Hawera with the Ninth Reinforcements, Messrs, P. Sisley and A. Colman were each presented by their fellow boarders with a wristlet w&fch. Cabled advice has been received by Mrs M. Bluchcr, of 'Princess Street, Hawera, that her youngest son, Albert Norman Bluchor, has been admitted to the Western General Hospital, at Manchester. Mr. Stanley, of Hillsuorougli, has rereived word from London that his son, Private E. C. Stanley, is raftering from concussion due to an exploding shell, but is improving and doing well. The Heath occurred at Christchurch last week of Mr. Wilfred Badger, a well-known solicitor, and compiler of Badger's New Zealand Statutes. Mr. B. A. Callander, postmaster at Ongarue, and formerly on the staff of the Telegraph Office, New Plymouth, has been transferred to Rongotea. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., for Egmont, was quietly married on Monday morning to Miss Mabel Duncan at the' house of Mr. II Moves, Eltham. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr. Lowevy, Mid the couple left immediately by motor-car to spend their honeymoon. Before leaving Manaia to take up the duty oi manager of the Moa Farmers' Co-operative Store at Inglewood, Mr. P. Preo was entertained, by the Hibernian Society, a»d presented with a gold sovereign case as a mark of respect and esteem iu which he u held by the members. . Trooper Charles Thompson, mounted section of the Third Reinforcements, died in Wellington Hospital yesterday, He was invalided back from Egypt by the Wilnmera and had since been an inmate of the. Dunodin Hospital. He was on his way to Auckland iu search of health, but was taken suddenly ill in Wellington. We regret to hear that information lias been received of the dcatli of Trooper If. B. Joyce, whose people are old and respected settlers of the Manaia district, i'rooper Joyce (says the Waimnte Witness) went to the front with the main body, and his death has followed a wound received in one of the recent heavy engagements at the Dardanelles. News lias also been received in Manaia that Private W. Sutton, formerly in the employ of Mr. Joe Mourie, is in hospital at Alexandria suffering from enteric. A Wellington telegram says that Mr. Harold Bcanchamp has received news that his only son, Leslie Heron Beauchamp, was accidentally killed in France last Thursday. He held a commission in the Bth Battalion. South Lancashire Regiment, nnd had only recently gone to France, after serving eight months' training in different parts of England. Lieut. Beauchamp was a native of Wellington, twenty-one years cf age, and was educated at Waitaki High School. Before he left Wellington for London, last Christmas eve, he was in • the office of Messrs. W. M. Bannatyr.e nnd Co. He was a ver,y popular young man.
