RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
SEVERAL TROOPERS INJURED. By Telegraph.—>Prelis Association. Auckland, Last Night. A shocking accident, resulting In grave injuries to one of tlie Auckland recruits who left for Trcntham by the, special troop train, serious injury to another, and minor injuries to two others, occurred as the train was passing through Taupiri station at about 0 p.m. The names of the men hurt are Privates Samuel McGffc (dangerous injuries to, right side of head), Alexander Hyland (serious laceration of left arm), Walter W. Chitty (minor injuries), and Thomas Turner (minor injuries). Particulars jegarding the accident ore meagre, but :t appears that the four men were leaning out of the train at the time, and were struck by the arm lof a tablet exchanger, which for some unexplained reason had failed to work. [Hyland was standing on the platform of the train, and McGee was at a window lof the same .carriage. Both were leanI ing out, and were struck by the iron arm of the apparatus before they could draw back. The other two men are believed to have seen the danger in time to avoid serious hurt. McGee and Hyland were too seriously injured to continue the journey, and wire taken off at Frankton Junction and conveyed to Hamilton Hosjpital. McGee is unconscious, and is in i an extremely grave condition, the nature | of his injuries precluding much hope of his recovery.
