THE FISHING SEASON.
SPORT IN THE WAIWAKAIHO. A good number of anglers whipped the Wainakaiho during the week-end, but though the conditions were good, sportsmen did not meet with very profitable fishing. Mr. E. S, Bavlev landed three nice rainbow trout, the biggest being 2%lbs, while Mr. L. Rea and Mr. Humphries each caught one of about 3y 2 lbs. No catches had been reported from the coast rivers yesterdav.
Stratford anglers report some very good baskets. Mr. R. Healy recently landed twelve excellent fish, the largest of which weighed about r>lbs, while the others averaged nearly 21bs.
Very satisfactory fishing is reported for last week in South Taranaki, quite a number of excellent catches being made. Messrs Moore Hunter (Kai Iwi), A, Hunter (Wanganui), T. Jones (Patea) and A. Kean (Hawera) between them grassed six fine-conditioned trout, nearly all to the minnow, from the Otakcho and Mangawliero streams, and later three of the party landed thirty from the same stream Messrs N. Young and W. Donnelly (Hawera) caught'between the two i ods twenty-four from the Kapuni, and Master W. J. Bell secured six from the Waihi, including a beautiful perch; while Mr. W. Hardley, junr., obtained six from the Waingongoro.
