LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph.—'Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Following is the High Commissioner's market report under date London, Oct. 10. (Note. —Quotations, unless oilierwise specified are average market prices on spot)\ Mutton. —Good demand continues owing to the short, supply available for the general public. Canterbury 7%d light weight, heavy weight 7d, other brands than Canterbury cannot be quoted; ewes very brisk demand owing to scarcity of wethers, 5y s d. f.air.bs.—Lass demand owing tj the large supply of home-grown lambs selling at a comparatively low price. Canterbury B'/ s d, heavy weight 7>/ 2 d, secondclass quality light weights 7y s d, other brands than Canterbury 7%d. Beef.—Ordinary quaiity New Zealand beef cannot be quoted. Supplies of American chilled beef are large, hinds 7%a, fores 5%d. Jiutter. —The market remains firm, but on account of high prices there is leu demand for best quality. Danish quiet, 205s to 2095, Siberian good demand for finest, 136s to 1425, Irish creamery slow, 172s to 180s.

Cheese.—The market is quiet but steady and prices are firm. ' Canadian, fair demand, white 70s to 775, colored 77s to 7S>; English Cheddar and Cheshire firm, moderate demand 94s to 90s; New Zealand steady, white and colored 70s to 775; United States good demand, 72s to 745; line quality 08s to 70s. Hemp.—The Manila market is dull with a downward tendency for forward shipment owing to poor demand. The spot market is not affected so far. New graded fair for shipment £3B to £33 ss. The output of Manila tor the week was 20,000 bales. The New Zealand market •s steady, but the demand only moderate. Quotations for shipment good fair £33 fair £3l. ' The value of high (joint on spot is about £32 !lis.

Tow.—Tow is still offering at last quotations, but buyers are holding back. Cocksfoot.—The market is quiet and firm. Good Danish is quoted at 84s to 85s cx warehouse. Wheat.—The market remains firm. The American market is high. OctoberNovember shipment Canadian 49s Gd, American 50s.

Oats—The market is quiet but firm. Argentine Ootober-November shipment 28s. ,

N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE CO. The New Zealand loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows; On Tuesday, Sept. 28, we held our >,stial weekly springing heifer sale in our Stratlord yards, when we had a large entry of 72 head and cleared most lines at present market values, but, generally speaking, the value of heifers is disappointing this year. There was a large attendance of the public. Prices realised were as follows: Good 3-year old heifers, close up, £8 to £9 10s; not so close up, £0 10? to £7 17s Od; good 2-year-olds, close un £5 10s to £0 10s; poorer sorts £4 15s to £5 7s od.; calved heifers, £4 5s to £5 10s. Cows were few and not of the very best, realising £6 los to £7 10s. In cur pig pens we had a small entry of pigs, stores, which sold at 15s Od, 25s to 2/s (id.

On Tuesday, October sth, we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards when we had a fair yarding of 4SS head of cattle, 25 sheep and 4 breeding sows. We effected a largo clearance of all lines to a fairly good demand. Cows of better class seem to have improved. Prices realised were as follows: Fat cows. £9 os to £lO Is; medium quality £7 3s to £8 7s; smaller sorts, £0 Gs, to £7; good forward cows made £0 to ££G 15s; smaller store cows, £5 2s to £5 15s; low conditioned cows made £4 5s to £4 8s; empty heifers, £3 5s to £4; 18-months heifers, -£2 10s to £2 16s; yearling heifers, £2 2s to £2 18s; poorer sorts, 37s Od to 40s; gpod yearling steers, £3 12s to £4; smaller £3 to £3 10s; 3-Tear-old steers, fair condition, £7 7s; grade Shorthorn bull, £9; forward twes, 245. We also offered at this sale a very nice Holstein bull on account of Mr. G. A. Marchant, Cardiff, which realised, under keen competition, 1714 guineas.

In cur heifer yards on tile same date we had a yarding of 35 heifers and a fair number of buyers attended, but the market was very much slacker and prices not so good as at previous sales. Good 3-year-olds were scarce and made £8 to £9; not so close up £7 5s to £7 17s Od; pnorer sorts, £0 to £7; good 2-year-old and close to profit, £5 10s to" £0 10»; not so close up £5 to £G; poorer sorts, £4 10s to £5. Tll cur pig yards we had four breeding sows which sold I'rum .€3 ]os to £3 los. On Thursday, October 7, we held the opening sale of the season in our Kolmratahi yards, when we had a yarding of 405 cattle, 222 sheep and two horses. There was a very large attendance of the public, and practically everything was sold at full market rates. ilViccs realised were as follow: Good forward cows, £!> 10s to £7; smaller framed tows, £5. 12s Od to £0 Gs; small store cows, £5 to £5 10s; 3-year empty heifers. £4 10s to £4 10s; 3-year steers, £S; 2-year empty heifers. £3 10s; yearling steers. £3 7s to £3 10s; smaller £2 13s to £3; yearling heifers. 35s to -lis Gd; smaller, 30s; hacks £0 to £7. Our next Koluirativlii sale will be held 011 'llmrsday, November 4. On Friday, October S. we held a clearing sale on account of David Blackstock, Esq.
