THE STRAIN* OF PUBLIC LIFE. FAREWELL TO THE OOUXCIL.^ The Mayor (Mr. J. E. Wilson), retired from office at the meeting of the, Borough Council last night, in accordance with tho decision which he 1 arrived ut some weeks ago. Tho tramways will then have been finished and there would be a good tramways road which would provide one of the best lengths of road in-the Dominion. (\>llis, 011 behalf of lue councillors, expressed appreciation of Cue way ill which the Mayor had always handled matters and also appreciation of the happy relations which had always existed between the Mayor and councillor.'. While expressing the regret of the oouneiilors at the Mayor's retirement, Mr Collis emphasised that they felt doubly the cause of his retirement."
