'*' A GOOD ADVANCE. ROVERTO IN JEOPARDY. Received Oct. 8, 10.10 p.m. Rome, Oct. 8. There is news of an important advance towards Roverto. The Italians have been investing the fortifications of Da?sdisomme and Sciumg'.ats for six weeks, during which a methodical bombardment of the forts continued unintenuptedly. Every fortification is now smashed, and the Italians can view Roverto from the summit of the ntw positons. Tbey have commenced a bombardment of the fortifications of Fincncliio which is the last Austrian line of defence before Roverto. The Austrians a.e compelled to keep up a stream of reinforcements to oppose the steady pressure.

THE KING'S SPUR. ROYALTY'S NARROW ESCAPE. Received Oct. 8, 8.20 p.m. Rome, Oct. 8. King Emmanuel is visiting the Isonzo front. He left his motor car and was a witness of a fight at close quarters, on horseback, though warned of the danger from Austrian artillery. Suddenly a shell exploded and wounded the King's horse. King Emmanuel calmed the emotion of his suite and directed the horße to be sent to a Blue Cross man. When he was recommended iv retire, King Emmanuel quickly asked for another horse and rode forward. The troops later, shouting "Savoia," charged and took the enemy's position. The spot is no* called "The King's Spur."
