AN OLD SJORY. DEAF MUTES FOR THE FRONT. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) London, Oct. 7. The Amsterdam de Courant states that Germany is sending deaf mutes to the front in special companies commanded by signs. Most of the reinforcements on the West front came from the training camps, not the Eastern theatre.
Kiel! refugees affirm that the AustroGermans at Poliesie branded many male inhabitants of military age on the right arm in order to prevent their escape. THE ALLIES' LOAN. In the opening address lie opposed ctnTpulsory service being used to cover the bringing in of industrial compulsion. INSTRUCTIONS TO RECRUITERS. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) London, Oct. 7. The War Office has instructed recruiting committees to take whatever steps are considered most effective to induce men required for home service to enlist. The assistance of local authorities has been promised. The instructions are; "You should sec that no man is aide to complain that he is not wanted because he has not been fetched. You should report men refusing to enlist in the army, where they are so much needed."
