WHEAT SUPPLIES. By Cfible—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, Oct. 7. Before the commission which is inquiring into the claims ojf farmers whose wheat was commandeered, evidence was given that the Government had imported to date 91,805,(i851b of wheat, costing £474,980, and that the Commonwealth had entered into an agreement to secure freight for the exportable surplus of wheat. QUEENSLAND TAXATION. Brisbane, Oct. 7. A forecast predicts that new taxation will be placed on automobiles, theatre and picture show tickets, and that there will be an increase in railway fares and freights and further land taxation. RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Adelaide, Oct. 7. The two engine-drivers were also injured in the Henly Beach railway smash, Driver Faliey seriously. Some passengers were imprisoned in a telescoped carriage, but were rescued with no injuries beyond shock and abrasions. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LIQUOR LAWS. Adelaide, Oct. 7. The Legislative Council passed the Bill closing hotels at six o'clock, and the further amendments to the Licensing Act necessary to bring it into operation at tbe expiry of licenses in March. A Bill was introduced making it a penal offence to supply liquor to soldiers in uniform. Several members [intimated that they would support an amendment making shouting illegal.
