PROTESTS AGAINST RACING.

The Presbyterian Church Committee passed a resolution of protest against it lie King's representatives encouraging raciiiLT by I heir attendance at meetings, wjiieh at all times are a menace to the inorality of the community, and are especially dangerous in war time. The. committee cannot find terms sufficiently strong to indicate its abhorrence of the national hypocrisy which on one hand pleads for recruits and economy and on the other encourages an institution conspicuous for its deleterious inlluence and tho extraordinary waste of money through gambling. Copies of the resolutions were sent to the Governor-General, Prime Minister, and tho Premiers. Melbourne, Oct. 7. The Anglican Synod carried motions condemning the totalisalor and urging the introduction of legislation to provide for a referendum on the question of permanently closing hotels earlier.
