THE MYSTERIOUS MAVERICK.] APPREHENDED BY DUTCH WARSHIPS. San Francisco, Oct. 0. Reports arriving from the Dutch East Indies indicate that a mysterious steamer, the (Maverick, has been apprehended there by the agency of Dutch warships. She was found to Ibe laden with guns, ammunition, sections of submarines and rifle 3, apparently intended "for German aggression in the Pacific. \TSie Maverick departed from San Pedro, California, in April, clearing as usual. Apparently the cargo was not inspected. It is thought that Germans in the United States planned to establish in the Pacific a submarine base to operate against Russian or Australian steamers. TWO STEAMERS SUNK. '- London, Oct. fl. The steamer Sailor Prince lias been ■ sunk. An unknown number of survivors have been picked up. The steamer Haydon has been sunk; the craw are reported to have been saved. PORT DUES EOR GERMAN VESSELS. London, Oct. C. A committee of the Australian and New Zealand Merchants' Association passed a resolution that a3 German submarine activity had inflicted considerable losses on the British here and in the Dominions, the committee suggests that the British and colonial Governments should levy immediately after the war special port dues, in addition to the customary port rates, on German and Austrian vessels entering the ports of the Empire.
GERMAN STEAMER. SUNK. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) Eeeeived Oct. '7, 0.-IO p.m. Amsterdam reports that a British ■submarine sank the German steamer Sviona, near Rugen Isle. Ten of the crew were saved.
