NORTH TARANAKI PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.

On Tuesday evening, Messrs Beckbessingcr and Buchanan addressed a very fine meeting of settlers in the Waihi schoolroom on the matter of forming .1 sub-branch of the League for that portion of the district. The chair was occupied by Mr. H. M. Purdic, who called on the visitors from Waitara to explain to the meeting the whole proposal This was done effectively, the result being that a very strong and enthusiastic committee was appointed. Judging by the hearty manner in which those present got to work in arranging a campaign for the future, there will be no doubt of the support that Waihi will give to the patriotic business. The subject of a market day on Saturday was also brought before the meeting, and those in the room all promised assistance with some produce, and were prepared to canvass their neighbors for more. It was decided to make the riding of Waihi the boundary of the Waihi sub-branch. Mr. Bulliaiis was appointed hon. secretary. The members oif the Ninth Reinforcements, and those of the Seventh and Eighth on leave, are to be entertained at a social in the Clifton Hall this evening, when suitable mementos will be presented to them by his Worship the Mayor. Assistance in the vocal and instrumental portion of the programme will be given by Mrs. Wilkes, Miss Ghong, Misses Gilbert, and Mr. Farmer," of New Plymouth, in addition to local vocalists. A most enjoyable function can be looked forward to, as the ladies who have charge will leave nothing undone to ensure success.

Very line work is being done in the way of organisation by flic North Taranaki Patriotic League. They have established sub-branches to work'in connection with the main branch at Waitara. in all the ilifl'orcnt districts, there now being no less than eight sub-branches, all working in unison, and each one taking its fair share of the necessary work. .Since the inauguration of the League some fourteen months ago the members have met regularly every Monday evening with the exception of three evenings, a record they may well be jjroud of. In addition to this, some of the members have spout a considerable amount of time in forming sub-branches, but their efforts have been so very successful that the time has been well spent, and the hearty way in which they have been assisted when visiting the out districts for the purpose of linking up made the task a pleasant one to all concerned.
