HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. By Telegraph.—'Press Association Wellington, Last Nigh COMMITMENT OF BILLS. In the evening, Hon. W. H. Herrle* moved the committal of the West CoM.t Settlement Reserves Amendment Bill, and briefly explained the principal provisions of the measure, which is mainly a machinery one with no question of policy involved. Hon. A. T. Ngata generally approved of the Bill, which contained many useful provisions, and Mr. Parata also spoke in terms of approval, The motion was carried. Hon. W. H. Herries then moved ♦ommittal of the Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill, which is intended to further amend the law relating to native lands, and determine certain claims and disputes.' Messrs J. Payne, L. M. Isitt, and Hon. A. T. Ngata followed with speeches on native affairs generally. , Hon. W. H. Herries replied, and claimed that the Government had endeavored to hold the balance fairly between the two races. Ho deprecated the statement that natives had been badly treated. On resuming after th» supper adjournment the House went into committee on the West Coast Settlement Reserves Amendment Bill, which was passed with one amendment, tuid the addition of a clause' affirming that mortgages may may be transferred to new leases. The committee then considered the Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill, which was passed with two or three minor amendments. The committee then further considered the Counties Amendment Bill, which was passed with amendments moved by the Minister. The House then went into committee on the Friendly Societies Amendment Bill, which was reported with amendments.
