(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday.
A meeting of members of the Stratford and Midhirst Gun Clubs was held on Saturday evening to consider the question of amalgamation. It was decided to call another meeting on Thursday afternoon, when a full representation of all the clubs interested is expected. Mr. 0 Grant was elected secretary pro torn. The Dardanelles Market on Saturday was again a great success. Under the supervision of Mesdames Curtis, R. Dingle, ,T. B. Hine and A. Dingle, it had a busy day, and reported "all sold" at 7 o'clock. Over £22 was taken. The Midhirst residents are holding a social in aid of the wounded soldiers on Thursday night. An effort is being made to got Mr. J. T. M. Hornsby, M.P., to give a recruiting speech at the function.
At the school this afternoon, Mr. Tyrer, headmaster, presented Mr. H. J. Thompson, who is leaving with the next draft of reinforcements, with a set of razors, a sleeping bag, and set of military brushes. Mr. Tyer spoke of Mr. Thompson's services as a teacher, and said they were all sorry to lose him, and wished him God speed ou behalf of the pupll9.
At the Holy Trinity Church this morning Mr. Richard Evans, second son of Mr. Evans, Regan Street, was married to Miss B. O'Leary, daughter of Mrs. O'Leary, Hamlet Street. Mr. G. G. Rimington gave the bride away, while Mr. E. S. Tichbon acted as best man. Rev. C. B. Howard officiated. The happy couple left by the 10 o'clock train for the South.
The schedules for the Stratford A. and P. Association's Show, to bo held on December 1 and 2, are now obtainable from the secretary. The first month of cow-testing for this season lias proved a victory for the purebred Jersey cow, as is shown by the following results:—Kaupokonui Association— 2075 cows tested (largest number ever tested), best cow Jersey, 13351bs milk, CO test, SO.lOlbs butter-fat. Midhirst Association—233 cows tested, best cow Jersey, Ololbs milk, 6.3 test, 57.641ba fat. Stratford Association—lsß cows tested, best cow Jersey, 11321bs milk, 4.5 test, 50,f141bs fat. The test in each ■case was for 30 days.
