SUPPLY OF OFFICERS.

FOR FUTURE REINFORCEMENTS. The District Headquarters has issued a new circular dealing with the supply of officers, from which the following is taken:— The policy previously laid down by District Headquarters in regard to this question was to recommend for appointment to the Expeditionaf-y Force only thOße serving Territorial Officers whose I names appeared in the New Zealand Army List. This acted so long as there was a supply adequate to meet requirements, but, uuder instructions from Headquarters, Wellington, this policy will be modified in future as laid down hereunder. The following general instructions, in supercession of all previous instructions on the subject, are issued for the guidance of all concerned: — Eligibility.—l. Gentlemen coming within the undermentioned categories are, if considered suitable by this office, eligible to be recommended for appointment, on probation, to the subsequent reinforcements, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, as officers or to be entered upon the district waiting list for that purpose:— (a) Officers of the • Territorial Force on the Active List. (b) Officers of the Unattached List (b). (c) Officers of Reserve of Officers. (d) Officers on the Retired List. (e) Those who have held Commissions in the Military Forces in any part of the Empire, including Territorial and Volunteer Commissions, and those who served as Officers \in the South African Contingents. Preference will be given to applicants in the order named. Age.—2. Second Lieutenants and exSecond Lieutenants, Lieutenants and exLieutenants, may be accepted up to 38 years of age. Captains and ex-Captains, Majors and ex-Mnjors, may be accepted up to 4S years of age. Service.—3. Second Lieutenants of the New Zealand Territorial Force, in order to be eligible to go into camp on probation with the subsequent reinforcements, must have had at least six months' sen ice. On receipt of applications from officers and ex-officers, applicants will be immediately medically examined, and if passed fit officers will fill up Form "A" and ex-officers will fill up Form "C" (these can be obtained from the local Defence Office). Applicants must be given clearly to understand that they arc not to throw lip their civil occupations until such time as they are actually ordered into ramp. All serving officers whose names appear in the New Zealand Arm} List should lie asked to consider the advisability of volunteering for active service, provided they are eligible, in view of the fact that the supply of officers in this district is now praetic-allv exhausted.
