CORRESPONDENCE.
"A NATIONAL PERIL." (To the Editor.) Sir, —The person who wrote under the above heading and signed himself "Subscriber" must be nothing less than a contemptible coward. To express and write such sentiments amounts almost to treason at such a time as the present, and is certainly altogether unworthv of any. Britisher or British subject. ' His name ought to be made public, and if lie had I'. cd in the good old days the public "stocks" would be his reward for his cowai-lice and selfishness. Perhaps "Subscriber" does not know that, part of the work of a newspaper is to make its readers feel uncomfortable at times, otherwise their writings would be like I'ie ministers' sermons—of little use. It is only v.'hen people are aroused by ; less or pulpit that they are made to s»e things in quite a different light from their own too comfortable views, in many eases. Anyway, I hope that the printing of "Subscriber's" letter will cause the public to think about all such sentiments very seriously and demand a satisfactory explanation. I am only a weman, but as such I am willing to - work in any capacity for which I am fitted, for the Empire. Thanking you, Mr. liditcr, for space.—l am, etc., ELIZA MATHEWS. Omalia, Sept, 30, 1915,
