mm THE GENERAL GRANTS TREASURE. By Telegraph.—(Press Association. Invercargill, Sept. 29. The cutter Enterprise returned to the Eroff yesterday, after a search for gold from the General Grant, which was wrecked at the Auckland Islands half a eentury ago. For three months Captain Catling and party explored the coast-line, using a centre-board canoe in Ike hazardous work, and located the cavern where it is supposed the General sank. On several occasions the party had narrow escapes, and the canoe was wrecked. The party lias returned for provisions and a new launch. The Enterprise is fitted out with the most complete diving, electrical and observation equipment south of the line, including air compressors, which will supply the diver with air for two hours without pumping. Captain Catling leaves in a few weeks to recover the gold, and is sanguine of success.
