C. Whithorn, is now in the Ist Southern. General Hospital, Birmisgham. Mo further particulars were given. King, of Stratford, will be pleased to learn that he is progressing favorably from his recent severe illness. Mr. R. J. Deare, who lias been on o. visit to ■Wellington during the past fortnight, returned by the mail train last night. » Mr. W. A. Low, the well-known theatrical manager, arrived in town last night to make arrangements for the appearance of George Stephenson's company of comedians in tho famous minimi farce comedy "Fnn on the Bristol," at the Theatre Royal, commencing next Wednesday. Private L. G. MelUnstry, of A Com- , nany, 7th Reinforcements, died at Trentham Hospital yesterday morning, from cerehro-spinal-meningitis. Deceased was. a son of Mr. L. McKinstry, Ssrsfield Street, Ponsonby, Auckland, and was .120 years of age.—Press Association. Private Ernest Clow, of New Plymouth, who was wounded at t!*> Dardanelles early in August, has been discharged from hospital and is now convalescent at Alexandria. Mrs. M. Clow received a cable to this effect from tho Prime Minister vesterduv.
The funeral of Private Ronald Bai'v, of New 'Plymouth, who died in London as the result of wounds received at the Dardanelles, took place yesterday, Private Baily being buried at KeUall Green Cemetery, London. The offices of the New Plymoutli Borough Council were closed yesterday afternoon as a mark of respect to, the deceased. The enlistment of Mr. D. O'Brien in the ranks of the gallant men resisting the might of Oraiany is) a matter of especial 'public satisfaction (say* the Westport Times). Mr. O'Brien i* an underground manager in the employ'of the Westport. Goal Company at MaJagatina, and a married man. 'fle has had a good deal of volunteering experience, and was captain of the Milierton corps. As a public man lie is well-known and esteemed, and at present occupies- (be position of Buller county chairman, and is a member of the Hospital Board. The sacrifices Nfr. O'Brien is making in patriotic cause is a very fine ntamplo, and as such must be valued bv %\n, people.
