TjTß.iii OISOOVEBBD IN TOffl. By Telegraph.—-(Press Aaaodsiion. Auckland, Last Night. A determined attempt to burn the Miners' Hall at Huntly, was perpetrated on Sunday night. The night was dark and stormy, and someone prized open a window at the back of the hall and sprinkled the room with kerosene, using bagging to set the floor alight. The fire was discovered about 10 p.m., by two gentlemen connected wtih the hall, who promptly put the fire out with appliances that were sent for. The floor was well alight, and only for the fact that the outbreak was promptly discovered nothing could have saved the building and the adjoining private houses. The Miners' Hall is a popular place of entertainment. A reward of ! £SO has been offered by the hall and picture management for information that will lead to the conviction of the miscreant. A SENSIBLE .DECISION. Wellington, Last Night. The Seamen's Union executive posted a notice to-day conveying their decision regarding a certain vessel now in port, "that in view of the vessel having as an ordinary trader taken a man out of the stokehold and worked him in the engineroom at sea, and the Australian Seamen's Union having failed to prevent this being done, the executive of the New Zealand Union has now decided that the departure of the ship must not be delayed for a settlement of the pVint, whilst the ship is under special orders." The crew are therefore instructed to sign on at the shipping office next Friday morning, leaving the disputed matter to be arranged after the vessel ceases to be engaged on special service.
